China wholesale 110/240VAC RGB 10W LED Floodlights. Just received 6 of these RGB lights and overall I'm impressed by what you get for your money. Obviously the first thing we do as a geek is fire it up and check it out... quickly followed by opening it up and seeing how we can hack it... But I was amazed when I saw this (Refer pics).
The Mains AC input is fed directly into a small switching 12V regulator. This isn't the problem, it's the celotape which is wrapped around the regulator which is the ONLY insulation and protection from any of the live wires touching the chassis! There is a earth lead connection, but this will only protect you if it is connected at the plug!
I'm quite highly trained in electrical/electronic safety, and since not everyone who will purchase these are electricians, I feel it's important to highlight this issue....
At the very least (if your not confident opening it up).... ALWAYS connect the EARTH wire on this device to the EARTH pin on your plug. This will be your only protection against electrical shock.
I personally will be modifying this device to fully insulate and isolate the PCB and AC wiring from the chassis with Heatshrink and neutral cure silicon (since there are zero mounting screw points on the PCB).
I would highly recommend others to inspect and make necessary adjustment to theirs to make sure that this device does not become Live in your hands also!
NEVER Work LIVE.... please disconnect and work on this without power connected! Turning off at the wall is not an isolation procedure!

Updated modification. Heatshrink and neutral cure siliconed to the light housing to secure and insulate the step down switching regulator from the chassis and vibration.
I also resoldered and secured the PCB to make sure vibration and fatigue would not let wires break loose and become an issue...
I'll post some pics when I get them home at night for a review....
